Diagnostic and Theraputic Services

At Paradise Animal Hospital, we are able to provide your pet with a variety of medical services: from routine physical exams, to diagnostic procedures, to care for complicated diseases.  Our patients are valued family members, we find that as they grow older their medical issues grow more complicated as well.

Annual Physical Examination: Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help identify and alleviate serious health problems.

Blood Pressure Measurement: High blood pressure is a common part of many diseases in older cats and dogs. It is just as dangerous as it is in humans!  Measuring blood pressure is more difficult, and must be  done with a “doppler’ device.  Our technicians are experienced in performing this technique with your cat or dog to get the most accurate measurements possible.

Glaucoma Testing: Increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma) causes sudden blindness and pain.  Some breeds are more predisposed to this condition.  Others may suffer injuries that cause glaucoma as a secondary condition.  Glaucoma must be treated immediately.  We are equipped with a tonometer  to measure ocular pressure right in the exam room.

Microchipping:  Microchips are a permanent form of identification designed to last the entire lifetime of your pet.  The microchip itself is about the size of a grain of rice and is placed over the shoulders.  We offer the service at any age, when new pets are presented for their first visit.  Most commonly, we place microchips at the time of  the spay/neuter procedure.  For more information about how microchips work  go to:

Our in-house laboratory: provides routine ‘in-house’ laboratory services including: fecal parasite analysis and annual heartworm testing (including Lyme disease, and Ehrlichia) in dogs; and leukemia and feline AIDS testing in cats.  The lab can also provide accurate, immediate results (kidney, liver, electrolytes, blood sugar, blood counts and urinalysis for routine pre-surgical patients and for critical patients who may need immediate decisions regarding their care in the hospital.  We utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized studies and consultations.

Radiology Services:  Our on-site, modern digital X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the diagnosis of many disorders.   We are able to send studies to specialists via internet or  on CD with clients for referral appointments and consultations.

ECG and Diagnostic Ultrasound: Electrocardiography is used to determine normal heart rhythm and rhythm disturbances in our pets.  It is part of all of our surgical monitoring and is also performed when patients are presented for some heart conditions.

Diagnostic ultrasound is used in our practice for screening of body cavities for abnormal fluid accumulation, some diagnostic procedures.

Surgical Services Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures, from ‘spay’ and ‘neuter’ surgeries to more complicated soft tissue and orthopedic procedures.  Patients vital signs are monitored constantly with our Surgivet monitor and with constant hands-on attention from our surgical staff.  CO2 Laser capability is available for some procedures.

Dental Care:  Dental disease causes chronic pain in as many dogs and cats as arthritis!  Unfortunately, owners do not recognize the pain - because their pets continue to eat – it is a necessity to survive!  Paradise Animal Hospital has a specialized treatment area for performing dentistry including, routine preventive cleaning, digital dental radiography, ultrasonic scaling and polishing teeth, periodontal care and minor oral surgery.  The veterinary staff are capable of extractions of  infected and diseased teeth.

Pharmacy We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.

Dietary Counseling:  We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.
