Pet Wellness Examinations at Paradise Animal Hospital in Catonsville, MD

Evaluating Your Pet from Head to Tail

Taking your pet to the vet can sometimes be a chore; your pet is often stressed and reluctant to get in a crate, or even in the car if he or she senses where they’re heading. Then, the entire ride is filled with heartbreaking meows or whimpers. Sometimes, your pet will appear healthy, which makes you think he or she doesn’t really need to be seen by a veterinarian. However, despite your pet’s healthy outward appearance, they tend to age faster than humans. If you get a physical examination at least once a year, your pet deserves the same care and attention to his or her health. At Paradise Animal Hospital, we recommend bringing your pet in for a wellness examination at least once a year to help preserve the longevity of his or her life.

What Happens During a Wellness Examination?

At Paradise Animal Hospital in Catonsville, our veterinarians have nearly 30 years of experience providing quality care for pets of all sizes. We understand that a vet visit can cause a ton of stress for both you and your pet which is why we strive to make our facilities as comfortable and calming as possible.

During a wellness examination, a veterinarian will:

  • Check your pet’s body weight and temperature
  • Look at your pet’s eyes, ears, and nose
  • Check your pet’s lymph nodes
  • Look in your pet’s mouth to assess the health of his or her teeth and gums
  • Evaluate your pet’s heart and lungs
  • Feel your pet’s abdomen to check the internal organs, including the kidneys and liver
  • Evaluate your pet’s muscles, spin, and joints

It’s important that we have a comprehensive record of your pet’s health status, which is why we take the time to carefully document our findings after the examination. During this time, we will also notify you of any health problems we found or any risks for health problems. Your veterinarian might provide you with a prescription diet for your pet or prescription medications to treat or prevent a health issue.
